How do you make yourself stand out in a vast internet sea of health coaches?
How do you determine a successful marketing strategy and keep yourself inspired to cultivate new ideas?
If you want to maximize your motivation, your marketing reach, and your earning potential as a health coach, it's important to do a little sleuthing to uncover your niche. Your niche is your target market, your focus, and your clearly-defined path or product.
Finding your niche is not always easy or quick, nor is it always a straight path - but it’s worth it to take the journey to discover your sweet spot.
Why do you need a niche to make money as a wellpreneur?
1. High Income Potential
People will pay more to see a specialist. Whether it be healthcare, taxes, real estate, or - our favorite - health coaching, revenue increases when your clients feel you are the absolute expert for a problem that they are trying to solve. Finding your niche will allow you to increase your fees while at the same time find your ideal customers.
2. Deeper Expertise and Better Results with Your Clients
Having a focus will allow you to gain more knowledge in a specific area. Your clients will appreciate your extensive knowledge and you will both have better experiences and interactions. On top of that, since birds of a feather flock together, they will likely recommend you to their friends who may have similar needs, which will rapidly increase your client base.
3. Strengthen the Quality of your Marketing
Casting too wide of a net when marketing to your clients will weaken your message. People are looking to a health coach to provide guidance on their specific needs. If your marketing is too general, people will not see themselves in it and you may lose their attention to someone more specialized. Having marketing targeted to a more narrow audience will make it easier for those clients with a particular quandary (who you are 100% confident that you can help) - to find you!
4. To Ensure You Stay Motivated
There’s nothing like working in a field that you don’t enjoy to burst your balloon of satisfaction in your career and render you unmotivated and void of new ideas. If you choose a niche that fits, you will be motivated to keep those new ideas flowing and continue to grow your business.
How Do You Find Your Niche?
Follow Your Passion or Your Curiosity
Do some brainstorming to figure out what path to take to find your niche. Ask yourself:
- What makes me light up?
- Which classes in nutrition school did I like the most?
- What do I feel strongly about?
- What made me want to have a career in health coaching in the first place?
- What gender or age range do I want to work with?
- What do I research and read about in my free time?
- Who is my dream client?
Once you have brainstormed these questions and come up with a few ideas,, then ask yourself:
- Will this niche support the lifestyle I want for yourself?
- Will I be able to actively help people in this niche?
- Will it help me create a business I really want to work in?
- Will it help me work with the clients I want to work with?
- Does thinking about this niche get me excited to get started?
Play To Your Strengths
It’s important to play to your strengths when determining your niche. Ask yourself:
- What are my best coaching skills and what are my weaknesses?
- What did I excel in during my studies?
- What do people always come to me with questions about?
- Why do they come to me to answer these questions?
Find a mentor.
A mentor can help shine a light on the path forward, and introduce you to new ideas you may have never thought of before. Even if you think the person you would most want to be your mentor is either too busy or not interested, just mustering up the courage to ask them how they found their niche can be eye-opening and inspiring. Ask yourself:
- Is there a teacher I looked up to that I would love to keep in touch with?
- Is there anyone’s work I follow regularly and whose advice I put into practice in my own life?
- Is there a networking group that I can join to find like-minded people in my field?
