According to the CDC, about 100 million Americans either live with diabetes or prediabetes.

As a health coach, nutritionist, or dietitian, you’ve probably run into a few clients who struggle with impaired glucose tolerance. These nutrition clients might struggle with fatigue, excess hunger, vision problems, and more.

Nutrition professionals should not underestimate the seriousness of blood sugar imbalance. That’s why Meal Garden designed our first-ever Blood Sugar Management Program, so you have the support you need to help treat your nutrition client’s blood sugar problems.

Symptoms of Low Blood Sugar Levels

Low blood sugar, also called hypoglycaemia or a "hypo", is where the level of sugar (glucose) in your blood drops too low. It mainly affects your clients with diabetes, especially if they take insulin.

Low blood sugar can be dangerous if it's not treated promptly. That’s why it’s important to know the signs, which can include:

  • Shakiness
  • Anxiety
  • Irritability or impatience
  • Feeling lightheaded or dizzy
  • Fatigue
  • Clumsiness
  • Nightmares and other sleep disturbances
  • Nausea

High blood sugar occurs when the body can't effectively transport sugar from the blood into cells. When left unchecked, this can lead to diabetes. Some symptoms of a blood sugar spike include:

  • Increased thirst
  • frequent urination
  • blurry vision
  • headaches
