This week we sat down with Nicole, a product development and marketing coach who helps aspiring ‘product-preneurs’ create the business of their dreams so they can live a life of freedom (and success!) beyond the 9 to 5.

Nicole knows just how intimidating launching and growing a product-based business can be, which is why she aims to make it more accessible to everyone through her done-for-you and done-with-you systems!

You should listen to this episode if…

This episode is perfect for those who want to know how to develop and market a successful product as a wellness practitioner.

Or, if you are in a wellness industry (aka, you are a nutritionist, dietitian, health coach, fitness coach, etc) and you want another revenue stream.

Plus, who doesn’t dream of having their own products one day? Nicole makes it possible!

Is it really a good time to launch a product business?

Yes! It’s the perfect time to launch a product business and here’s why:

1. Everyone is online

A positive aspect of the pandemic is that it has shifted consumer’s behaviour to online shopping, and people are used to it by now. We saw over 150 million people shopping online for the first time. And we noticed something interesting; they also want to support small businesses!

Over 80% of shoppers said they will pay more to support local businesses

— said Nicole de Larzac

2. E-commerce is growing

Global retail e-commerce sales grew 27% and so did the Shopify platform.

Though global eCommerce growth will slow before picking up in 2022, eCommerce sales are at an all-time high after the pandemic accelerated years of growth in just weeks.

3. It’s just easy

It's never been so easy to start a product business and eCommerce business. You can just set up storefronts on platforms like Shopify and Squarespace, or on marketplaces like Amazon or Etsy, and use the power of the internet to be searched and found.

What are the best types of product businesses for wellness practitioners?

The best product business you can sell is the one that aligns with your business and niche.

For example, practitioners that focus on gut health might have an interest in selling probiotic and prebiotic supplements or fermented foods. Alternatively, gym owners or personal trainers may be interested in selling fitness equipment or athleticwear.

The possibilities are endless, as long as you're passionate about it and it supports your business!

Are you curious how you can bring products into your practice? Here are 3 tips to get you started:

1. Remove the fear!

It’s ok to be scared and hesitant about getting into the product business.

Yes, there are so many things involved and so many things to do, but Nicole’s job is to help you by giving you not only her proven system to go through but also the steps you need to follow.

2. Create a business plan that considers money and inventory

Another thing people worry about is they think they need to have money to invest in inventory. You really don’t need to have a lot of cash flow, you just need to plan for it.

Nicole recommends people to start where they can, aka, start small, and also to think of a product idea that is not going to require a huge amount of development costs. It’s best to start with something smaller, locally produced and in small quantities. That way you can make sure that there's demand for it.

3. Don’t sell to everyone

The big rule of thumb with your brand positioning is that you want to try to niche down. It’s very hard to market to everyone unless you are a big company like Nike or Coca-Cola). Start small and figure out who you're targeting and what kind of problem you're solving.

Monetizing your product - how do you create more awareness and scale your product revenue?

Nicole likes to go through the customer journey with her clients so they understand what kind of touchpoints their audience hits along the way.

Here are some of her favorite tips for creating a buzz around your products:

1. Pay for ads on social media

2. Use your owned networks, such as your social media, blog, website, and email list.

3. Use earned channels, which refers to things like PR, influencers, etc, where you earn the right for other people to talk about you.

“I feel like a lot of entrepreneurs that I work with \ focus too much on the awareness aspect, but they forget that it's a whole process. It's a whole journey.” - said Nicole de Larzac.
