We all want to be healthy. We all want to be Beyonce.
Okay, maybe just the first one for a select few. Regardless, she can teach us a thing or two about healthy eating. It’s not just her complex moves that are keeping this woman fit! Turns out she eats pretty well too - or at least she does while on the 22 Day Vegan Challenge.
Her and her beau Jay-Z went vegan for 22 days while on this highly publicized diet…
Beyonce’s intentions were certainly flawless. She created this organic meal delivery service - 22 Days Nutrition - with her trainer, Marco Borges, to promote how eating a vegan, gluten-free, soy-free diet can make you feel, well, as great as Beyonce!
That’s all fine and dandy. As long as it’s ACTUALLY healthy.
Thankfully, Meal Garden can help.
Specifically, I got weary when I saw this:
“Bars” are usually the devil - often sneakily packed with loads of sugar. Whether or not it’s coming from dates and other dried fruits, over 25 grams of sugar in a single bar of anything should at least make you a little cautious.
I put the “Organic Protein Bar, PB + Chocolate Chip Nirvana” through the Meal Garden health algorithm (just popped the ingredients as a new recipe creation in my cookbook) and was delightfully surprised!
These beauties came out with a true green leaf.
But now let’s look a little closer…
Hallelujah - we are still in the clear! While the sugar content is a bit steep, these bars are a well-rounded snack that will keep you well-fuelled as you go about an active lifestyle.
There you have it, Beyonce is helping the world to be a brighter, better place in more ways than one (her music being the other - in case you’re unclear). Helping people eater healthier is certainly a step in the right direction, as in the U.S., more than one-third (34.9% or 78.6 million) of adults are obese.
It’s offering delicious and healthy snacks like these that can help us all move the needle in the right direction and lead more nutritious lives - for ourselves and for our families.
Meal Garden's mission is to be an active participant in that leap, and we continue to seek inspiration and ideas from influencers who are taking the lead.
As a follow-on note, I’d like to suggest these recipes to make your own great healthy bars that are a tad lower on the sugar side - I’ve made both and I can truthfully claim that they are worth pulling out the food processor for.
