You’re going to love this episode if you want to connect better with your ideal audience.

This week, our guest Gicela Holguin is biting through the BS of marketing and teaching you how to tell your story online so that you can scale your revenue and start working (and connecting) with your ideal audience.

Gicela is a life and business strategist with a growing marketing agency dedicated to helping entrepreneurs tell their stories online to connect, nurture, and serve their ideal clients.

This week Gicela and Kiki go deep into when it clicked to start telling her story and why all brands should craft a personal and professional storyline.

A great episode ahead. Check it out!

Telling your story works! Here’s when Gicela made the click.

How many times have you been told, “you have to share your story to make an impact online?”

At first, Gicela thought that the HERO journey was a load of BS until she started to look for differentiating factors for her client’s businesses. Eventually, it clicked; brand stories were that unique selling point (USP) that she could take to market for her clients.

This was when she realized that she needed to take her advice and implement storytelling into her strategies.

How is my story going to make people pay me like, what do I even have to bring to the table? I was resistant to share who I was because I wanted to look professional, and I wanted to look respectful. But what makes you different is when you can access and embody who you are!

— Gicela

You can use your personal story to craft a journey with your audience that they can really connect to.

Gicela believes that when you are in business and you aren’t telling your story or crafting a brand story, you attract clients that aren’t in alignment with you.

Brand story almost always ends up = ideal clients and customer success!

Here are Gicela’s 2 major reasons why you NEED to craft your brand story in order to grow your business:

#1- It’s a differentiating factor.

The truth is that without a story, your brand isn’t that unique. You have many competitors and are likely offering a similar service or product as someone else. The best way to stand out is to be unique and share who you are as a person so that other people can connect to that.

#2- You attract the right clients and clients that align with your values.

When you show the world who you are, what you believe in, and your personality, you attract people who relate to that. Otherwise, you will get clients that are not in alignment with you and your work!

Getting Started: Practical Tips

If you’re eager to get started, struggling to finish or just want to compare your current story to see if there are ways to improve it, we’ve included some of Gicela favorite tips below.

Tip #1: Be wary of your WHY

People can smell BS storytelling, Gicela saw it all the time in the ‘bromarketing ‘ space.

Be very wary of your reason behind why you chose to be a practitioner and start your practice and the messaging behind that.

Be authentic and honest and craft that message based on realness.

Tip #2: Try the sticky notes method.

Grab sticky notes and write all of the themes of life as stories! It doesn't matter what comes up, just write it down. For example, you can write about your family, business, something big that happened, etc.

After, put them in the order of what you are most comfortable sharing to what you are least comfortable sharing, and then start crafting your marketing message around those stories. Make sure you are writing a lot because eventually the story puzzle pieces will start to connect and comfort and confidence will shine through.

Tip #3: Start with where you are right now.

Instead of going all the way back to your childhood, why don’t you start with what’s happening today and how you got there?

You can talk about the struggles you faced and challenges you had to overcome. You can also talk about the small victories and everything you’ve learned so far.

Tip #4: Just record it!

This is a good method if you are not into writing.

Record yourself telling your story and then use transcription apps to have it written. Saying things out loud and hearing your voice can also help your brand persona and personality as well.

When I started to be this messy, open-book person that just shows up and says ‘we’re going to get this done, here’s what you’re going to get, this is how you do it, I don’t have all of the answers but I will be on your side and in your corner all of the time, the alignment came and more money came.

— Gicela

Remember that the goal with storytelling is to help and inspire someone who might be a few steps behind you. Don’t stress too much if your story is not perfect; it’s all about the journey and the mission to help others!
