The benefits of blogging as a health coach in 2021

Member Profile

I thrive on diving into PubMed and “getting my head around” health topics, and then beautifully translating that scientific jargon into . . . well . . . English! I have an MSc in Biomedical Toxicology and Nutritional Science and also completed studies in Natural Nutrition.

Leesa Klich

I help health professionals build authority by creating easy-to-read, research-based health articles that reflect their high standards and provide valuable information. This saves them time and helps them stand out in the crowded market of entrepreneurs.

The benefits of blogging as a health coach in 2021

With Leesa Klich & Jenni Bourque

So you’ve just started your business as a health practitioner and know that you need to be in the digital world.

You’re ready:

  • You have your social media channels set up
  • Your website is launched
  • You have programs and courses ready

But one thing you may be unsure of, or maybe you've started but don’t quite know how to gain traction with, is blogging!

Blogging is beneficial, but is it worth the time? Do you really need to be blogging? Social media provides plenty of opportunities for gaining awareness and driving traffic, so, isn’t blogging kind of just a waste of time?

Hey, we’re Leesa and Jenni, and we’re bloggers!

Leesa is a professional content nutrition writer, and Jenni, Meal Garden’s Director of Marketing and owner of Social Wellness Co, her second business, her first being the Naughty Nutritionist, a blogging site, that she sold in 2019.

Take it from both of us, blogging isn’t dead. As a matter of fact, blogging can be incredibly beneficial for your business.

— Leesa & Jenni

The question is, how do you get started and what are some basic blogging principles for health practitioners to take with them into 2021-2022.

First, let’s talk about what blogging is

“Blogging is a different method of marketing your business based on sharing your expertise.” - Leesa

A blog is basically a write-up (or video, if you want to vlog) that ranges from about 1000-2500 words about a particular topic. It is then published on your website so that you can provide information in a highly accessible way.

You can create a blog post and use that as the base for all of your other marketing channels (social, email, etc.) Blogging is an extension of what you do and who you are, found permanently on your website and it’s the best way to engage with your audience 24/7.

Should you be blogging?

Yes.

But why?

We know that nothing in this world is permanent, and with so many big things happening in the social space, it’s easy to feel as if your socials could be taken from you at any minute. No, social media is not secure. Yes, blogging is!

Not only that but your blog can be linked to everything:

  • Webinars
  • Social media
  • Email
  • Programs
  • Lead magnets

Blogging is also the best place to start when you begin to map out your content calendar and promotional programs.

Ways to Apply Blogging into Your Practice This Year

There are plenty of ways you can apply blogging to your practice in 2021 and 2022. The most important thing we hear is that blogging takes up too much time. For that reason, we recommend setting aside around 5 hours/ month to focus strictly on your blog content.

You can get ahead and write out 2-3 blog posts and schedule them to be published at different times, or aim to get 2-3 published a month and work your way up.

Blogging doesn’t have to be difficult and we want to help you get your blog 1) set up 2) launched 3) consistent and help you develop a strong blog strategy!

This is why the two of us put our minds together to introduce a 20-minute training on How to Get Started and Maintain a Blog, where we walk you through the steps you need to take in order to make an impact, reduce the time you currently spend on content marketing (in all areas) and drive conversions through your website on a regular basis.
